In the past 25 years, the Revolutionary Guard, whose strength is estimated by Western specialists at 125,000 to 300,000, has gradually evolved into more of a conventional military and has become deeply involved in lucrative business enterprises inside and outside Iran. But all along, it has conducted overseas operations, both covert and overt, often under the Quds Force name.

Credit cards and bank cards generally cannot be used in Iran. Traveler’s checks can be difficult to exchange. Travelers should bring enough hard currency to cover their stay, but make sure they declare this currency upon entry. There is no Western Union or similar institutions and bank transfers are not possible. Travelers should only exchange money at banks or an authorized currency exchange facility, and keep exchange receipts.

Their services are frequent, reliable and safe are definitely worth considering to skip the large distances within Iran. Planes are aging, and maintenance and safety procedures are sometimes well below western standards, but it still remains the safest way to get around Iran, given the huge death toll on the roads.
