Iran's major export is unprocessed petroleum. After petrol, petrochemical products, natural gas, and machinery, as well as Persian Carpets, Saffron, Pistachio, fresh fruits, and other agricultural products are the major export items.

The climate of Iran is continental, with hot summers and cold, rainy winters; the mountain regions of the north and west have a subtropical climate. Temperature and precipitation vary with elevation, as winds bring heavy moisture from the Persian Gulf. The Caspian region receives over 40 in. (102 cm) of rain annually. Precipitation occurs mainly in the winter and decreases from northwest to southeast; much of the precipitation in the mountains is in the form of snow. Meltwater is vital for Iran's water supply. The central portion of the plateau and the southern coastal plain (Makran) receive less than 5 in. (12.7 cm) of rain annually.

Iran is still a cash economy, so bring enough hard currency for the duration of your stay. US dollars and euros are the most useful, and new and large (USD 100 or EUR 100 or higher) bills in good condition are perfered and usually get a better rate. Trade embargoes mean that banks will not forward cash advances on your foreign credit cards and they are only accepted by select stores for large purchases, such as Persian rugs. Most will be happy to forward you some cash on your credit card at the same time as your purchase. If you are desperate for cash, you can ... try asking these shops to extend you the same favour without buying a rug or souvenir, but expect to pay dearly for the luxury.

Attempts of Arabization ... never succeeded in Iran, and movements such as the Shuubiyah became catalysts for Persians to regain their independence in their relations with the Arab invaders. The cultural revival of the post-Abbasid period led to a resurfacing of Persian national identity. The resulting cultural movement reached its peak during the ninth and tenth centuries. The most notable effect of the movement was the continuation of the Persian language, the language of the Persians and the official language of Iran to the present day. Ferdowsi, Iran's greatest epic poet, is regarded today as the most important figure in maintaining the Persian language.

In a pond like the Gulf ... that's a moot point because the launch platform is the back of a truck in Iran and you cannot sink Iran. Odds are (strongly) that a land based launcher will engage before it can be detected, and the number of possible attack envelopes are huge, greatly complicating things for the ship.
