As shown by the 20% reduction, Ipswich Town’s bid to lessen their carbon output proved to be successful, putting the Club in a stronger position to appeal to their supporters. Therefore, in conjunction with E.ON, they set up a website entitled www.saveyourenergyfortheblues.co.uk, which promotes the Club’s campaign to obtain the pledges of fans to reduce their individual carbon emissions. Through achieving enough pledges, this goes a long way to offsetting the Club’s own carbon footprint.
Ipswich Town has won the top division once when it was called Division one, it is now called the Premier League. They have won the FA Cup once. The club has ... won the UEFA Cup once in 1981. In 1973, 1975 and 2005 the "under 18" team won the FA Youth Cup. Ipswich has a very good reputation for educating young players.
In the years since Ipswich Town played their first game in the Football League, hundreds of footballers have pulled on a Tractor Boys shirt to represent the club in first-class competitive matches. In this richly illustrated, hugely informative reference work, Dean Hayes has detailed the careers of every single one of those players, whether they are household names or men who made only a handful of appearances at Portman Road.
Ipswich used to be a club that many sides used to model themselves on. Plymouth Argyle in particular were keen on using Town’s blueprint of development over a period of time to reach the promised land. But soon Ipswich became a blueprint that no-one would wish to model themselves against, with spiralling debt and a club still reeling from its spell in administration.
This really is a dreadful book, and yet it could, and should, have been an excellent celebration of Ipswich Town. The concept was really good too but it just hasn't been executed. The write-ups about many of the players are almost laughable. Half the time the text meanders on about other things totally unrelated to the player in question. When each player is only given 1 or 2 pages (including a photograph or two), you can begin to understand just how transparent the descriptions are. They are very poorly written too - the sort of writing you would expect from a 12 year old - and this guy is supposed to be a journalist (who, incidentally, has apparantly had much access to the club and it's players).
