iPod mini In March 2004, reports of sound glitches with the new iPod mini first emerged at the ipodlounge.com discussion board[1]. After numerous news sources picked up on this, Apple acknowledged that some users have been reporting the same problem. Some units would start playing static over the earphones, instead of music; research among users has determined that the earphone connection inside the unit is prone to breaking off from the unit's circuit board. A possible hardware problem raised concerns amongst consumers since it cannot be easily upgraded like firmware.

The iPod mini is a second generation digital audio player launched by Apple. It was unveiled on January 6, 2004. It was available in two different models. Both these models were virtually identical externally, with the only differences being in their storage and battery capacities. The iPod mini made use of touch-sensitive scroll wheel with four mechanical touch buttons beneath the wheel. This wheel was ... known as the "click wheel". To access any of the four buttons, the user had to physically push the edge of the wheel inward.
Here's a hypothetical: Apple launches the iPod mini instead with Cornice's 1.8 GB drive (saving at least $70) for $199. With 2 or 4 gigs, you've either got a small collection or you move tracks around. Apple undoubtedly sells more units and makes more on each unit. The 2 GB drive proves to small for a large portion of users who move up to the 15 gig.
