built 221 days ago
The Apple iPod mini from HP has joined the line of other Apple iPod models marketed by Hewlett Packard. HP will offer two models of the iPod mini: the 4 GB model as well as the 6 GB model. The 4 GB model offers storage for up to 1,000 songs, while the 6 GB model will hold up to 1,500. Like with its full size iPod models, HP will ... offer an HP Printable Tattoo for the Apple iPod mini from HP. HP has committed to rolling out 300 new images for the printable tattoos over the next 6 months. A pack of 5 tattoos retails for US$9.99. Read more from the HP press release.

[One] nifty IPod feature, not specific to the Mini, is auto-generated playlists based on the most recently played songs or your highest-rated music. Like other current IPod models, you can create an on-the-go playlist by picking a track and pushing the select button to add it to an ongoing queue of tunes.

Both generations of iPod mini were almost identical in their external features; their differences lay in their storage and battery capacities. Both versions are 3.6x2.0x0.5 inches (91x51x13 mm) and weigh 3.6 ounces (102 grams). The case consists of anodized aluminum. First generation iPod minis were available in five colors: silver, gold, pink, blue, and green. The gold model was dropped from the second generation range, likely due to its unpopularity. The pink, blue, and green models had brighter hues in the second generation; the silver model remained unchanged.

The iPod mini, released in January 2004, was Apple's attempt to steal away market share from the flash-based or budget end of the MP3 player market. The mini was originally released in five colors (blue, silver, pink, green and gold) and had a 4GB microdrive hard disk for storage. Apple updated the model in February 2005 by dropping the gold color and adding a 6GB version of the remaining colors.

On January 6, 2004, Apple introduced the first iPod mini. It had 4 GB of storage and a price of $249 (at the time, only $50 below the 15 GB third-generation iPod). Critics panned it as too expensive, but it proved to be overwhelmingly popular, and Apple Stores had difficulty keeping the model in stock.

At a mere 3.6 ounces and with 4GB, the $249 Mini is two ounces lighter than the 15GB model of the IPod. It's ... about a half inch shorter and thinner. Unfortunately, while it costs $50 less than the 15GB model of the larger IPod line, it's a bit pricey considering that with the larger IPod you get a much bigger hard drive for the money.
