The Iowa Cubs are the Triple-A affiliate of the major league Chicago Cubs. The team plays in the Northern Division (American Conference) of the AAA Pacific Coast League. All Iowa Cubs home games are played at Principal Park.

The last exhibition game involving the Iowa Cubs was played against the Chicago Cubs August 13, 1998. The game featured back-to-back-to-back home runs by both teams as they combined for eight home runs total in a game that was called after six innings in a 10-10 tie when both teams ran out of available pitchers. Sammy Sosa, who later that season was named the National League Most Valuable Player, homered for Chicago and was later ejected for arguing a call at third base.

Recently, the Iowa Cubs discovered that due to development in the area surrounding Principal Park that they would be losing a large portion of their available parking. While they were able to locate an area close by to help compensate for the loss, this new parking was a much further walk to the ballpark. So, the issue arose on how to provide their fans with a “lift”.
