Ionia: Cities
built 606 days ago
Ionia made important contributions to Greek art and literature, and particularly to philosophy. Great cities grew up, of which Ephesus, Clazomenae, Erythrae, Colophon, and Miletus were the most celebrated. Several cities, such as Miletus and Phocaea, became important commercial centers and sent out colonies westward as far as present-day Spain and northward to the Black Sea.

Ionia residents donated more money ($500) to John Kerry than to the other candidates in the 2004 Presidential race. Across all electoral races, the Democratic party attracted the most donations from the city.
[One] son of Codrus 1 called Cnopus, though some say Cleopus, founded Erythrae or gathered men from all the cities of Ionia, and let them settle among the Erythraeans. For it is ... said that the city was founded by Erythrus, son of Radamanthys, son of Zeus and Europa. Besides the Cretans of Erythrus, there were in the city many Lycians, who are of Cretan origin as well. They had come to Lycia with Sarpedon 1 (son of Zeus and Europa), to whom Zeus granted life for three generations. Patroclus 1 put an end in Troy to Sarpedon 1's long life.
