Inuyasha

Author Rumiko Takahashi once stated in an interview that Inuyasha is an akita inu. According to Ms. Takahashi's official Zusetsutaizen Ougikaiden character data book, Inuyasha's age in human years is unknown, but his appearance and general behavior are "equivalent" to a human fifteen-year-old at the start of the series. However, the movie canon suggests an actual age of 150 human years since the Sou'unga was sealed two hundred years prior to the feudal era period. Inuyasha was shown to be born at that time, and he was sealed away for fifty years, providing 200 - 50 = 150 years. This is consistant with European concepts of the Fay, Farie, Elvish, or Tuatha De Danaan (various spirits, sprites, daemons, etc) as aging far more slowly than humans, even to the point of appearing immortal.

The aspect of Inuyasha most deserving of contempt is the animation. That isn’t to say that it is bad in any sense. In fact, it is quite good. However, the immense difficulties that exist in animating such a long action show are formidable for even the heartiest of budgets. As such, when an action scene can be reused, it probably will be. For example, many of Inuyasha’s special attacks, such as the “Soul Scattering Iron Claw” or the “Wind Scar”, have used the same animation from the very beginning of the show.

During her travels, Kagome encounters Inuyasha, the very creature that Kikyo had trapped before her death. When Kagome frees Inuyasha from the tree, she is given special protection from Kikyo’s sister, knowing that Inuyasha would mistake Kagome for the late Kikyo. The protective spell resides within the magical prayer beads fastened around Kagome’s neck, forcing Inuyasha to obey her when she says the magic word, “sit.” It is after all no coincidence that “inu” means “dog” in Japanese. Despite the fact that Kagome resembles Inuyasha’s capturer, Inuyasha learns to trust her overtime, these two developing a partnership of sorts.

Inuyasha had the soul of Aramitama (Courage), Shippo with Nigimitama (Friendship), Miroku with Kushimitama (Wisdom) and Sango with Sakimitama (Love). Kagome tries to save her friends who are inside the frog eggs made by the frog-demon, and in the end he is killed together with Izumo in his half-demon form. Kagome was sad because she felt for Izumo but they carried on their adventure anyway.

Inuyasha spots a ghost, called the Soul Piper, leading the souls of dead children with its tune. When the Soul Piper's eyes are closed, children are on their way to heaven, but should its eyes begin to open, a child is headed for hell. Meanwhile, the ghost of a little girl named Mayu is causing mischief and Kagome, the only one able to see Mayu, must keep the ghost from taking vengeance on her little brother who lived through the fire that killed her. But the Soul Piper's eyes are opening wider…

Intent on becoming stronger, Inuyasha originally intended to use the Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls... known as the Shikon Jewel) to change from a half-youkai to a full youkai. To acquire this jewel, he would have to steal it from Kikyou (Kikyō), the Shinto priestess tasked with purifying and protecting the jewel. After several unsuccesful attempts to even approach Kikyo, InuYasha began to develop feelings for her. Their subsequent encounters lead to a closer relationship, and she eventually talked him into using the Jewel to become human (he wished to gain acceptance, and she wished to be a normal woman).
