The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is an international non-governmental non-profit organization which leads the Olympic Movement in accordance with the Olympic Charter. It governs the organisation and running of the Olympic Movement and sets the conditions for the celebration of the Olympic Games. The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of man, with a view to encouraging the establishment of a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.

The International Olympic Committee is an organisation based in Lausanne, Switzerland, created by Pierre de Coubertin in 1894 to reinstate the Ancient Olympic Games held in Greece, and organise this sports event every four years. The IOC receives its operating funds through advertising and merchandising Olympic memorabilia, as well as through sale of rights to the media who report on the occurrences at the Olympic games.

Officials of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are already in the midst of planning for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. In order to facilitate improved treatment for athletic injuries, they recently sought out the suggestions of a United States podiatrist who treated athletes at the Athens Olympiad last year. Nicholas Romansky, DPM, who headed up the U.S. podiatry contingent at the 2004 Olympics, spoke recently to the IOC regarding his clinical experiences and made suggestions for the next games.

Beijing, China, April 23, 2007 - Samsung, an official TOP Partner of the Olympic Games in wireless telecommunications equipment, concluded a sponsorship contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on April 23 at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, China. Samsung first became a full sponsor of the Olympic Games during the Nagano Olympic Winter Games in 1998. According to the new contract, Samsung will officially sponsor the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement for the next eight years, through the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games in 2010, the London Olympic Games in 2012, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and the 2016 Olympic Games.

Monday, the United States Olympic Committee received the Domestic Bid Books from the two U.S. Candidate Cities under consideration to be selected as the U.S. Applicant City for the 2016 Olympic Games – Chicago and Los Angeles. The good news, one of the two cites in all likelihood will host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The best news, whichever city isn’t selected by the USOC. The bad news, the city that is selected by the USOC faces a $20 billion bill once they are selected by the International Olympic Committee in October 2009. The IOC vote will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
