Insulation: Air

Air-Krete™ is a magnesium silicate, cementitious (cement-based) insulation that is foamed or pumped into closed cavities. Do this before installing the inner wall finish material. Installed consistency of the foam is similar to shaving cream that then cures to something akin to thick pudding. It is easily damaged by water. (See article titled "Air Krete-The Other 'New' Kid on the Block" in Bibliography below.)

The panel backs consist of gas-tight insulation displacement connections for continuous metal-to-metal contact in the electrical connection... preventing the intrusion of air and moisture that can result in corrosion and failure. Patch cords can be routed directly into the vertical wire management patch cord organizers. Other features include a rear wire management/strain relief bar, labels and label holders. The UNP500 and UNP600 are available in 24- and 48-port versions.

The following articles have information about new types of insulation. This bibliography was reviewed in August 1997. "Air-Krete-The Other 'New' Kid on the Block," J. Nisson, Energy Design Update, (6:12) p. 10, December 1987.

If one thermal insulation measure already meets program specifications and requirements, then only two thermal insulation measures (plus complete air sealing measure) are required to qualify for the bonus. For air sealing, final building airflow must equal 8 Air Changes per Hour @ 50Pa (ACH). A lower final ACH is allowed if approved mechanical ventilation is installed.
