Infections: Disease Control
built 605 days ago
Infections always have been and still are responsible for considerable morbidity and mortality worldwide. It was not until 1864 that Louis Pasteur concluded from his laboratory experiments that infectious diseases were caused by living organisms. Infections are mainly caused by micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Infections fall into two general categories: exogenous, or those that originate outside the body, and endogenous, which occur when the body's resistance is lowered. Examples of exogenous infection include catching a cold by drinking after someone else from the same glass; coming down with salmonella after ingesting under-cooked eggs, meat, or poultry; getting rabies from a dog bite; or contracting syphilis, AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), or some other sexually transmitted disease from an infected partner.

Recent research from the Weizmann Institute of Science indicates that there is another approach to dealing with infections. The majority of infectious diseases are initiated by adhesion of pathogenic organisms to the tissues of the host. Bacterial adherence to mucosa is an initial and important stage to cause urinary tract infection. Recent Studies show that certain compounds recognized by the bacterial lectins block the adhesion of the bacteria to the binding cells. This blocks adhesion and colonization. The result is that the bacteria can't stay and are simply flushed out of the system.
Microorganism like bacteria or infective particles like the viruses are the usual causative agents behind infections in the human body. However, it must be mentioned that an exposure to pathogenic germs or microorganisms by itself does not necessarily result in infection and the appearance of consequent and tell tale symptoms in the human body. Furthermore all microorganisms are not necessarily the agents that bring on infections and diseases. The ability and capability of the body’s immune system is a very important factor, in whether the infection once started will develop in the body.

Controlled clinical studies have not indicated an increase in serious infections in patients taking Enbrel. The FDA has requested that Immunex initiate additional studies to assess the risk of serious infection related to Enbrel treatment. Currently 1500 clinical trial participants are being monitored for the longterm safety and efficacy of Enbrel use.
There are many infections a woman can get in her genital area. Germs that live in or on a person's genitals cause these diseases. These germs can be passed from one person to another during sex. Practicing safer sex every time can help you avoid these infections.
