The Indiana Pacers first need to re-sign Stojakovic who opted out of the last year of his current contract. Team president Larry Bird has said he hopes a deal is worked out quickly. The acquisition of Stojakovic has added some parts missing to the Indiana Pacers game, but the loss of Artest was the loss of the Indiana Pacer’s defense. The vital loss of a perimeter defense allowed opposing players to dribble and penetrate forcing the Pacer’s big men to help out, usually leading to foul trouble. They didn’t play so well either. Centers O’Neal and Harrison are considered to be quality shot blockers but it didn’t seem so this past year.

Though the Indiana Pacers finished the last season with only 41 wins and the same number of losses, they are still eager to show the high results in the nearest future. The 2006 off-season saw big changes in the team’s rooster. Shawne Williams and James White were hired. Moreover, in July 2006 the Pacers completed a sign-and-trade with the forward Peja Stojakovic. This trade was rather questionable, as Stojakovic was a free agent and could not be traded for. Later, the Pacers completed the trade for Harrington and John Edwards.

Indiana Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley and several companions were the apparent targets of a shooting yesterday morning that wounded one person outside a downtown Indianapolis hotel. The police said Tinsley was not injured. Joey Qatato, identified on the Pacers' Web site as the team's equipment manager, was struck in both elbows as he sat with Tinsley in Tinsley's Rolls Royce. Qatato, 48, was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers have agreed to a trade. The Dallas Mavericks are going to receive point guard Anthony Johnson. In return, the Indiana Pacers will receive point guard Darrell Armstrong, power forward Josh Powell and Rawle Marshall. These two teams are getting used to working with one another. It’s the second deal between the two this month.

Hall of famer and Indiana basketball legend Larry Bird is the President of Basketball Operations for the Pacers organization. Bird was arguably the greatest player ever to come out of the state of Indiana and is most remembered for his epic rivalry with Magic Johnson. In 2003, he brought coach Rick Carlisle to the team. Carlisle is responsible for one of the league's best players and one of the league's biggest bad boys.
