To begin 2002, Incubus was #9 with "Drive", #12 with "Stellar", #20 with "Wish You Were Here", #75 with "Nice To Know You" and #31 with the album Morning View. On January 24 2002, MTV's TRL premiered the "Nice to Know You" video, and Boyd called in from Europe where the band was on tour with 311 and Hoobastank. The band was then featured on MTV's Becoming, TRL, The Tonight Show, and played the Letterman show on February 14, 2002, all before heading off to play dates in Japan and Australia for the remainder of February and March. While in Sydney, the band shot the video for their next single, "Warning", from March 7 until March 11. The band then released the DVD Morning View Sessions on May 28, shortly before playing the Weenie Roast on June 8 for KROQ. To start off the fall months, Incubus released a single for "Circles" in early September (though this was a radio only single), and there were no plans for a video.

Incubus: Look Alive Incubus: Look Alive is a dedicated summation of the state of Incubus, the alt-metal band born in the San Fernando Valley. Generally well-regarded by music critics who have noted the group's evolution since its formation in 1991, Incubus emphasizes tracks from their most recent album, Light Grenades, on Look Alive, a concert disc shot during a world tour. While the seemingly low-key band takes to the road in some fairly exotic places, it demonstrates during live performances of the jangly "Quicksand," the hard-rocking "Megalomaniac," and dramatic "Anna Molly" that vocalist Brandon Boyd, guitarist Mike Einziger, bassist Dirk Lance, and drummer Jose Pasillas are close to mastering their ever-developing penchant for radical tonal shifts within songs. Melodically drifting while rhythmically sputtering and exploding, Incubus' most up-to-date work, perhaps especially played in concert, proves the group is exploring uncharted territory of its own. A novel element on this disc is travel footage from the band's tour, including images from Israel, Dubai, London, and peculiarly beautiful, surreal shots of Iceland. --Tom Keogh

Incubus ... had unfinished business with the record company. Citing a California law that prevents companies from engaging in contracts that are longer than seven years, Incubus sued, claiming that they had not been receiving a fair share of the income that they had generated. The record company counter-sued but later gave the band a multi-million dollar contract for three albums with the option to extend to a fourth.

Incubus rose to become one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the new millennium, setting themselves apart from a crowded field with a somewhat less-negative outlook and tireless touring. Formed in 1991 in the San Fernando Valley suburb of Calabasas, CA, group members Brandon Boyd (vocals, percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance; bass), and José Pasillas (drums) were all tenth grade classmates when they got together. Their early funk-metal sound was heavily influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but broadened over the next few years to incorporate thrash, rap-metal, post-grunge rock, and grinding alt-metal à la Korn or the Deftones. By the time the group graduated from high school, they had already been playing all-ages shows around southern California on a regular basis. In 1995, Incubus added hip-hop turntablist DJ Lyfe (aka Gavin Koppel) to their lineup and recorded the independently released album Fungus Amongus. That, coupled with their strong local following, helped the band get a deal with Epic subsidiary Immortal.

Incubus had been recording their demos with a tape recorder in the middle of the room, or by using a 4-Track Cassette recorder. Until Mark Shoffner, a tour manager, approached them with an offer to record in his friends studio, no strings -- or contracts -- attached. So on January 7th, 1995, the band released the demo tape "Incubus". Almost ten months later, after recording with Jim Wirt in Santa Monica, California, Incubus released their first full length album, on their own label, called: Stopuglynailfungus Music on Chillum. The release took place on November 1st, 1995, and was called "Fungus Amongus".
