In Good Company: Topher Grace

Besides, the more interesting movie that lives inside "In Good Company" is the one that stars Grace. The prodigiously charming young actor takes the role of young corporate climber Carter Duryea and turns it into a portrait of a baby having a nervous breakdown. Carter is amoral, funny, confident, and slick as hell; he arrives at Sports America magazine having successfully convinced his bosses at Globe.com that toddlers will buy cellphones if they're shaped like toys. "You're being groomed," he is told and it's even let slip that Globe.com's mercurial CEO, Teddy K., actually knows his name.

In Good Company is a harmless romance/drama/comedy that benefits greatly from the chemistry and charisma of its two lead players. Im not referring to Topher Grace and Scarlett Johansson, but rather Topher Grace and Dennis Quaid. While they dont supply the romance aspect of the film (that would be a completely different movie altogether), they do play off one another beautifully, and it is their likability that elevates an otherwise conventional movie to a higher level.

In Good Company offers several touching scenes between Grace and Johansson and spots of good humor from the supporting cast. But eventually it's all monkey business about a man who's still a boy, a boy who merely mimics a man and a girl who won't decide to grow up, making it a sort of Baby Boomer fantasy that's solidly in the red.
