1. French
   Looking at the results by age, Spanish and French used to be about equally-taught, but Spanish has been heavily favored over French in recent decades. Among adults 45 and older, 48% took Spanish, compared to 44% who studied French. Among younger adults... Spanish has a 70%-30% edge. Latin has almost completely fallen out of favor, dropping from 16% among adults 55 and older, to only 3% among those 18-44.

   Written French uses the Roman alphabet. French spelling, which has many silent letters, is not always a reliable guide to pronunciation. For example, final consonants are generally not sounded. An s or x added to the end of a noun to form the plural is ... usually not pronounced. In such a case, the plural number is actually indicated in speech by the form of the article, as in le garçon (
3. French Literature -- French Language
   The evolution of French medieval literature from religious to secular forms emerges most clearly in the theater. The drames liturgiques of the 11th century were composed, in Latin prose, of sentences from the Bible. As a rule, they concerned the nativity and passion of Jesus Christ (see Passion Play). With the appearance of lay actors during the 12th century, the French language was adopted in the drame profane or drame sécularisé, which still employed biblical episodes. The scope was extended in the 13th century to include miracle plays about the saints and the Virgin Mary. This period ... contains the first pastoral play and comic opera, Le jeu de Robin et Marion (The Play of Robin and Marion, c. 1283) by the trouvère, or poet-composer, Adam de la Halle.
4. French -- French Language
   In Asia, French was the official language in Lebanon along with the Arabic Language until 1941, the country's declaration of independence from France. Still, French is widely used by the Lebanese and is taught in schools as a primary language along with Arabic. French is ... spoken by many immigrants of French or Maghrebin origin and their descendants in Israel.

Franco-Ontarian writers Gabrielle Poulin and Paul Savoie and Francophone writers in western Canada have also contributed to fashioning a Francophone culture that spans the entire country.

   France has one of the lowest rates of coronary artery disease in Europe... 28 percent of deaths in French men and 34 percent of deaths in French women are still attributed to this disease. The majority of patients are treated with percutaneous coronary intervention; more than 165,000 stents are implanted annually in private and public French hospitals. 10. Dawn French -- French Saunders
    Mini biography: Dawn French is the comedy partner of Jennifer Saunders. Has a deep and abiding interest in helping women of size find attractive clothing. Has thereby co-authored two books on knitting, "Big Knits" and "Great Big Knits" as well as founding a clothing store carrying fashionable and affordable designs. Was revealed that she and partner Jennifer Saunders declined Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honors "for services to comedy drama" in 2001.
