Imitrex is contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled hypertension because it can give rise to increases in blood pressure (usually small). Imitrex should not be used within 24 hours of administration of ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medicines, like dihydroergotamine or methysergide. The efficacy of Imitrex Injection in the acute treatment of cluster headache was demonstrated in two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, two-period crossover trials. Patients age 21 to 65 were enrolled and were instructed to treat a moderate to very severe headache within 10minutes of onset. Patients were eligible with a history of episodic or chronic cluster headache as defined by International Headache Society (IHS) criteria and untreated attacks typically lasting 45 minutes or longer.
