James A. Wright, Esq. Executive Inspector General On December 9, 2003, the Governor signed the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act which officially created the Office of Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor ("OEIG"). With the signing of this bill, the OEIG's powers and duties were expanded to include jurisdiction over all State agencies, including the State public universities and community college districts, except the Attorney General, Secretary of State, Comptroller, and Treasurer. The bill ... gave the OEIG subpoena power. The OEIG acts as an independent agency whose function is to investigate fraud and abuse in State government. Specifically, the Office of Executive Inspector General receives and fairly investigates complaints of violations of any law, rule or regulation or abuse of authority or other forms of misconduct by officers, employees and appointees of State agencies under its jurisdiction and vendors and others doing business with the State. The Executive Inspector General may report any findings of misconduct to the Governor, and may recommend measures to prevent the future occurrence of investigated instances of fraud, abuse or misconduct.
CHICAGO, Ill. – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded Ticket for the Cure grants totaling $1.5 million to researchers at five Illinois universities. Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Damon T. Arnold made the announcement at the University of Chicago, which is receiving a total of $425,000 to four researchers to find new methods to detect, prevent, screen and treat breast cancer.
"Wyoming ... shares Illinois' passion and commitment to clean coal technology," Governor Freudenthal stated in his letter. "Our State Geologist was intimately involved in Wyoming's own bid for FutureGen and is one of the recognized experts on geological CO2 sequestration. His team has reviewed the final four FutureGen site proposals and concluded while both Texas and Illinois offer solid sequestration plans, the edge goes to Illinois."
SPRINGFIELD - - Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1 million in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Central Illinois, including $250,000 to the West Central Educational Television Consortium. The Consortium is a not-for-profit organization that provides public television broadcasting for a 16-county region in Western and Central Illinois. The grant will be used for educational programming costs.
"Having Wyoming acknowledge that Illinois is the premier site is a huge plus for our bid to host FutureGen," Blagojevich said. "Governor Freudenthal recognizes, as we do, the importance of this project for any state wanting to maximize the potential for its coal reserves by advancing clean coal technology."
