Ameren Illinois utility customers ... may give the gift of energy by contributing to the Dollar More program, which helps low-income Illinois families stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Dollar More funds may be used to pay electricity, natural gas, heating oil and propane energy expenses. All Dollar More contributions go to those in need of assistance through a network of human services agencies. No contributions are used to administer the program.
The Ameren Illinois utilities ... warn residents to stay away from downed power lines, which may still be energized. Residents should stay away from brush and fallen trees which may hide downed wires. Until the ice melts off power lines and trees there will be a continued chance of additional damage to power lines. Residents who see a downed power line should call their Ameren Illinois utility.

The Ameren Illinois utilities were able to reduce the number of outages to about 5,000 by Monday evening, but overnight icing caused the outages to reach about 17,000 by Tuesday morning. However, this number was cut to about 1,650 by Wednesday morning.

Of the $1 billion in relief, $488 million will be funneled to customers of the Ameren Illinois utilities -- AmerenCIPS, AmerenIP and AmerenCILCO -- over the next four years. Most of the money this year will be paid out in credits on bills or checks for bills already paid, but millions will be earmarked for seniors, low-income customers, not-for-profit organizations and small businesses hit hardest by the January 2007 rate increase. The Ameren Illinois utilities ... will waive outstanding late fees for their customers. In addition, the Ameren Illinois utilities will extend to Sept. 1 their policy not to shut off all-electric residential customers with an outstanding balance. Customers can avoid a cut off of services by arranging a payment plan for their overdue balance.
