Illegal Immigration: Illegal Immigrants
built 630 days ago
Illegal immigration has been a relatively important factor in recent Argentine demographics. Most illegal immigrants come from Bolivia, and Paraguay, countries which border Argentina to the north. Smaller numbers arrive from Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Ukraine, Peru, Ecuador, Romania, Dominican Republic, Cuba and the People's Republic of China. The Argentine government estimates that 750,000 inhabitants lack official documents and has launched a program called Patria Grande ("Greater Homeland"), to encourage illegal immigrants to regularize their status; so far some 200,000 applications have been processed under the program.

Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, between 40 and 50 percent of wage loss among low-skilled American workers is due to illegal immigration. In addition, nearly 2 million American workers are displaced in their jobs each year and the cost of providing welfare and assistance to these illegal immigrants is over $15 billion a year.

Immigration charges stem from HPD death Federal grand jury indicts a landscaping owner who's suspected of harboring an illegal immigrant accused in an officer's killing. A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted a landscaping owner on federal immigration law charges, accusing him of harboring an illegal immigrant who was later charged with capital murder in the death of a Houston police officer. Robert Lane Camp, 47, was arrested last month on a criminal complaint that accuses him of taking significant steps to help Juan Leonardo Quintero remain on the job at Camp Landscaping in Deer Park before the September 2006 killing of officer Rodney Johnson.

Judge Munley has ruled (AP: "Judge strikes down Hazleton's illegal immigrant law,") that local ordinances to protect munincipalities of bearing the cost of illegal immigration, like the one in Hazelton, PA, re "preempted by federal law." This is flatly contrary to prior decisions of the Supreme Court. The driving force behind the appeal of this case, and a similar decision by another federal judge against ordinances of Farmers Branch, Texas, will be future harms to the American citizens who live in those towns. There will be more rapes, robberies, assaults and murders of citizens by illegal aliens. There will be more injuries, damage and deaths from illegal aliens who are driving without licenses, without insurance, and often, while drunk. The citizens of those, and other towns, which are being overrun by illegal aliens, will rightfully blame this death and destruction on the federal judges who have, so far, stripped the local governments of the power to protect their own citizens -- which is the first duty of all local officials, everywhere.

Illegal immigration refers to immigration across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country. Under this definition, an illegal immigrant is a foreigner who either has illegally crossed an international political border, be it by land, water, or air, or a foreigner who has entered a country legally but then overstays his/her visa. In politics, the term may imply a larger set of social issues and time constraints with disputed consequences in areas such as economy, social welfare, education, health care, slavery, prostitution, crime, legal protections, voting rights, public services, and human rights. Illegal emigration would be leaving a country in a manner that violates the laws of the country being exited.
