The freshened 2007 Hyundai Tiburon is a stylish four-seat sports car that can be bought for $17,000 to $22,000. Its competition is the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Mazda RX-8, which cost about $4000 and $6000 more, respectively. The Tiburon comes with either a four-cylinder or V6 engine; even with the V6, the power is modest but the exhaust note sporty. The transmission, suspension, brakes and bucket seats are all good. If you want a new sports car but don't want to spend a lot, the Tiburon is worth considering.

Your Hyundai Tiburon is a compact coupe that Hyundai has been producing since 1996. In the foreign markets, it was available in 1.6L or 1.8L. In several markets, the Tiburon was branded and marketed as the Hyundai Tuscani. The Tuscani wears a circular badge that contains a smaller circle of grey and black horizontal bars that is overlaid with the letter T that is painted gold on the left and painted silver on the right. The Tuscani name has become quite popular. In Canada, a special edition of Hyundai Tiburon is marketed as the “Hyundai Tuscani Edition”.

The Hyundai Tiburon has nice, rakish lines. From the side or three-quarters rear profile, it looks like it should start rolling off downhill. A crease on each side extends precipitously, from above the rear tire and slightly higher than the door handle, to a point on the front fascia below the headlamp. A crevice down by the rocker panel accentuates the slope of the crease. It's a lot of styling work to make the car look forward-leaning, but in the end it works.

The 2007 Hyundai Tiburon has a simple but handsome cockpit. At first glance, it's evident that the interior designers wanted to impart a high-quality look and feel to the cabin. Everything is laid out in a straightforward fashion, free of gimmickry. Fiddle with the climate control knobs and the silky fluidity with which they move would do a Honda proud. Bolstered sport seats help keep occupants in place during enthusiastic cornering, and the large speedometer and tachometer are easy to read at a glance.

The 2007 Hyundai Tiburon receives a restyled exterior including redesigned front and rear fascia, headlights and taillights, hood, front fenders and exhaust tips. The interior is fitted with blue backlit gauges with gun metal accents, standard MP3 capability and a standard tire-pressure-monitoring system. The SE features a sport-tuned European suspension, new wheel design, Electronic Stability Control, brake assist, larger front cross-drilled brake rotors and a full-size spare tire. The new European-tuned suspension features a stiffer front and rear spring rate for better handling and performance. The GS comes standard with 205/55R16 performance tires while the SE, GT and GT Limited receive wider 215/45R17 tires.

When it was introduced to the North American market in 1997, the Hyundai Tiburon signified Hyundai's first commitment to providing more than just value-oriented but bland economy cars. This coupe-styled, 2-door hatchback, though not as refined or as performance-oriented as some of its competitors, was surprisingly affordable and showed that Hyundai was serious about redefining its image. Since then, the Tiburon (the name means "shark" in Spanish) has improved in both looks and performance, and the current model represents the vehicle's second generation. Though the Tiburon has still not broken into the upper echelon of performance hatchbacks and coupes, its affordable price could make it a decent choice for both new and used vehicle shoppers.
