It takes only one glance at the new Hyundai Santa Fe to see that Hyundai has made a strong effort to move upmarket. The midsize SUV comes in three trim levels -- GLS, SE and Limited. The base GLS model is powered by a revamped version of the previous model's 2.7-liter V6, which now makes a respectable 185 horsepower with the help of variable valve timing. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, and a four-speed automatic is available as an option. The base drive configuration is front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional across all trim levels.

For the 2007 model year, Hyundai came out with its first minivan, called the Entourage. It’s the first vehicle in the automaker’s line-up to offer a third-row seat that folds in the rear. Also, the Santa Fe, Hyundai’s larger compact SUV, gets a redesign. It grows in size and gets more powerful with a 180 HP engine. Lastly, the manufacturer's best selling car, the Elantra, gets a makeover in the fall of 2006 when it will be based on the Kia_Spectra. And for the 2006 model year, the Azera debuted.

The original Hyundai Santa Fe was launched in 2001 as Hyundai's first foray into the SUV market. It was a solid effort. Sold until 2006, the initial model was notable for its pleasant ride and roominess. There were two engine options -- a 149-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 177-hp 2.7-liter V6. The Santa Fe was available in three trim levels (GL, GLS and LX) and with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Hyundai's second-generation fuel cell vehicle is improved in almost every way. The Tucson FCEV has a driving range double that of Hyundai's first-generation vehicle, the Santa Fe FCEV. Maximum speed and power have both increased to improve the overall performance.

The Santa Fe is the first of four Hyundai models to add XM Satellite Radio as a standard feature to all audio systems this year. Others include the 2007 Sonata, Azera and Elantra. Every 2007 Hyundai equipped with XM Satellite Radio ... comes with a three-month complimentary subscription. These vehicles mark the beginning of Hyundai's aggressive rollout of XM Radio as a standard feature in all audio systems of its U.S. vehicles.
