Hydrochlorothiazide: Water
built 655 days ago
Hydrochlorothiazide is a white crystalline powder that dissolves slightly in water but freely in a solution of sodium hydroxide. It is a diuretic (water pill) that prevents excessive absorption of salt and fluid retention by the body. Hydrochlorothiazide is used in the treatment of various conditions like heart failure, liver and kidney disorders that cause fluid retention. It is ... used in the treatment of high blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide works by helping the kidneys to remove excess water and salt in the body that are no longer needed, by increasing the amount of urine passed.
Hydrochlorothiazide, sometimes abbreviated HCT, HCTZ, or HZT is a popular diuretic drug that acts by inhibiting the kidneys' ability to retain water. This reduces the volume of the blood, decreasing blood return to the heart and ... cardiac output and, by other mechanisms, is believed to lower peripheral vascular resistance. Hydrochlorothiazide is sold both as a generic drug and under a large number of brand names, including: Apo-Hydro, Aquazide H, Dichlotride, Hydrodiuril, HydroSaluric, Microzide, Oretic.
Hydrochlorothiazide works on kidney enzymes to produce more urine which reduces excess water and salt in the body... reducing blood pressure. Greater sensitivity to the hypotensive and diuretic effects of hydrochlorothiazide is possible in elderly patients. This medicine is used, alone and in combination with other medici and hydrocodone.
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to the thiazide class of diuretics, acting on the kidneys to reduce sodium (Na) reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule. This reduces the osmotic pressure in the kidneys, causing less water to be reabsorbed by the collecting ducts. This leads to increased urinary output.
Hydrochlorothiazide, a 'water pill,' is used to treat high blood pressure and fluid retention caused by various conditions, including heart disease. It causes the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a white, or practically white, crystalline powder with a molecular weight of 297.74, which is slightly soluble in water, but freely soluble in sodium hydroxide solution. Hydrochlorothiazide is known as a thiazide diuretic. Thiazide diuretics act in the kidney to remove water from the blood into the urine, by causing an increase in the removal of salts such as potassium and sodium from the blood. This removal of salts causes water to be drawn out of the blood and into the kidneys, where it is then excreted in the urine.
