Wives can and should choose to interact with their husbands in a respectful way. That goes without saying that husbands ought to be doing the same thing: interact with their wives in a respectful manner. When a respectful approach is gone, when there is no more respect, the relationship very quickly deteriorates. In fact it is interesting that marriage counselors see a lack of treating one another with respect as a huge red flag. One of the most obvious signs a relationship is in serious trouble is when respect is gone. On the other hand, when both partners live up to God's expectations of them, it produces some beautiful fruits: love and unity and peace and a wonderful kind of intimacy.

Husbands and Wives appears in both an aspect ratio of approximately 1.85:1 and in a [F]ullscreen version on this single-sided, double-layered DVD; the widescreen image has been enhanced for 16X9 televisions. Only the letterboxed picture was reviewed for this article. The film displayed a few problems that likely resulted from the original photography, but it generally appeared very satisfying.

Though there are many very funny elements here, "Husbands and Wives" is not strictly a comedy. Even the one-liners seem to have an edge ("Life doesn't imitate art — it imitates bad television") and the insights are equal parts amusing and painful, with an ambiguity in the end that leaves us to make up our own minds about what these people have gone through. It does not make for a "happy ending."

Part Two, The Stories, presents the experiences of different groups of husbands and wives as they deal with their own and each other’s aging-related health changes. There are wives taking care of husbands, husbands taking care of wives, husbands and wives taking care of each other, and “not yet” caretakers. The stories are all true and involve people who are all real, though minor details have been altered or omitted. Many of these stories are sad because they concern pain, loss, illness, disability; but they are ... reassuring and even inspiring because they illustrate examples of strength, courage, hope, and love.
