The National Hurricane Center in Miami has released its predictions for this season, which begins June 1 and runs through November 30. Forecasters are calling for 13 to 17 named storms, seven to 10 hurricanes and three to five major hurricanes which are Category 3 and above.

While property damage has increased in recent hurricanes, fatalities have fallen due to earlier warnings by the National Hurricane Center, better evacuations, and safer buildings. However, many more Americans have moved to coastal locations, and areas like the Florida Keys are increasingly difficult to evacuate. Tropical storms remain unpredictable, and there is no more deadly example of nature's power than the hurricane.
