Humanism: People
built 656 days ago
Secular Humanism is a recent product of the consciously civilized modern West, and not a professional field, nor is it a quality of character. It is, rather, an aggressive cultural ideology, a set of ideas expressed in programs which are designed to bring about change to people's lives. Secular Humanism is fixated reactionary thinking by those who have been traumatized through encountering the practise of dehumanizing and substandard pseudoChristianity. It is clear that Secular Humanists are obsessively anti-Christian, stirred by a sense of outrage at activities of professed Christians of the past and/or present, and viewing their Humanism as a self-righteous crusade with the goal of exterminating Christianity.

Humanism, a paradigm that emerged in the 1960s, focuses on the human freedom, dignity, and potential. A central assumption of humanism, according to Huitt (2001), is that people act with intentionality and values. This is in contrast to the behaviorist notion of operant conditioning (which argues that all behavior is the result of the application of consequences) and the cognitive psychologist belief that the discovering knowledge or constructing meaning is central to learning. Humanists ... believe that it is necessary to study the person as a whole, especially as an individual grows and develops over the lifespan. It follows that the study of the self, motivation, and goals are areas of particular interest.

Humanism maintains that people can acquire purpose in life and maximize their long-term happiness through developing their talents and using those talents for the service of humanity. Humanists believe that this approach to life is more productive and leads to a deeper and longer-lasting satisfaction than a hedonistic pursuit of material or sensual pleasures that soon fade. While service to others is a major focus of Humanism, recreation and relaxation are not ignored, for these too are necessary for long-term health and happiness. The key is moderation in all things.
