Human Cloning: Human Clones
built 215 days ago
No one is sure how far human cloning has actually gone. By April 2003 Clonaid, a company created by the Raelian sect, said they had already created five human baby clones. The first, Eve, was allegedly born in America.
Students will form an opinion about whether or not human cloning should be allowed. Once they have done the appropriate Internet research, they will write their list of ethical standards to govern human cloning. Then they will create a survey with questions derived from their list, and give the survey to friends, classmates, or family members. They will compile the results and compare them to their own opinion.

[One] group claiming to be working on the first human clone is the Raelians, a "new age" religious group in Quebec that has announced a human cloning project called Clonaid. Last year the sect said it had found an American couple willing to pay $500,000 to clone their dead baby.
A bill was brought before the US Senate which would criminalize human cloning at the federal level. Protests from the scientific community about the Republican leadership's haste in bringing the bill forward killed the bill. No action is expected on this bill in the near future.

The legislation's prohibition on human cloning focusses on the end result - the creation of a human clone - regardless of the technique used. This ensures that as new cloning techniques are developed and research advances, the Act will remain relevant, without the need to be amended.

A "human clone" is a time-delayed identical twin of another person. A clone is not an exact replica of the original, but just a much younger identical twin. As with identical twins, the clone and the original being will have different set of fingerprints. Ever since Dolly's ( the cloned sheep ) birth in 1997 shocked an unsuspecting world, Governments have been busy trying to prevent the advent of human cloning.
