While The Hulk was riding high on TV, Marvel expanded his comic book franchise by creating his one and only spin-off. In 1980, Bruce Banner gave an emergency blood transfusion to his cousin, Jennifer Walters, and his gamma-irradiated blood transformed her into The She-Hulk. "Shulkie's" first series lasted a mere two years, but like most Marvel characters, she never quite went away.

When the Leader detonated a gamma bomb with the Hulk at ground zero, the Hulk was assumed to be dead. In reality, he had been transported to Jarella's world moments before the detonation. On Jarella's world, the Hulk helped a group of minor wizards to overthrow the "Grand Inquisitor" in return for a spell which was promised to rid him of Bruce Banner for good. When the Hulk returned to Earth, he was given a job as an enforcer for a casino owner named Michael Berengetti. Calling himself Mr. Fixit, the Hulk spent several months without reverting to human form. It was during this time that he met and dated Marlo Chandler, who would later marry Rick Jones.

The Hulk possesses superhuman strength and can lift many tons at his "base" strength level; ... the Hulk's strength increases proportionally to his level of anger or emotional distress. Of the Hulk's incarnations, Joe Fixit is relatively the weakest and the Savage Hulk the strongest at their base levels. When enraged, the Hulk can easily lift in excess of 100 tons. During the Secret Wars limited series, he is shown supporting a 150 billion ton mountain. The Hulk can cover great distances by leaping, a several miles in a single bound. The Hulk can also grow stronger by absorbing radiation.

The Hulk returns to Manhattan to complete his ultimatum. Iron Man engages him in battle, wearing an enhanced "Hulk-Buster" armored suit, but is defeated after trying to subdue the Hulk with sabotaged anti-Hulk nanotechnology. Stark Tower is destroyed in the ensuing battle. After this battle, the Hulk battles the Ghost Rider and is beating him before the Ghost Rider leaves. The remaining Avengers teams engage the Hulk and his Warbound but are defeated, as are Doc Samson and the Fantastic Four. Reed Richards' plan to simulate the Sentry's presence in order to calm the Hulk ... fails, as Susan Storm attempts to have the real Sentry intervene.

No sooner had the live-action show gone off the air, than The Hulk was animated again. The 1982 series lasted only one season. A third animated TV series, this one lasting two seasons, began in 1996. In between, the Bixby/Ferrigno version was reprised on TV in three movie-length sequels. Currently, Universal Studios is gearing up to star him in a major theatrical release.
