Hulk Hogan: Vince Mcmahon
built 285 days ago
When Hulk Hogan left the WWF in 1992 business started declining and by 1993 the WWF desperately wanted Hogan back. So Hogan agreed to return but demanded a lot more say in his storylines. Vince McMahon reluctantly agreed and Hogan returned a few weeks later.

Hulk Hogan joined the WWF in 1979 as a heel, actually hired by Vince McMahon Sr. Hogan was immediately successful, successful enough to be offered a role in Rocky III. Vince Sr. refused this cross-promotional opportunity and ... Hogan left the WWF in 1981. He toiled in the AWA and in Japan for three years building his reputation as a master promoter and single-handedly carrying both organizations. In late 1983, Vince McMahon Jr. bought the WWF from his father and set out on his plan to build an international media empire. His first move was to rehire Hogan and make him the centerpiece of the WWF.

If there's one man in wrestling who needs no introduction, it's Hulk Hogan. He first came to the WWF in the early eighties, but soon left for the AWA. He gained national attention because of his role in the movie Rocky III, and brought that attention to the WWF when he returned in early 1984. He quickly won the WWF title from the Iron Sheik, and a movement he called Hulk-a-mania swept the land. Hogan gained mainstream popularity and together with Vince McMahon, took the WWF to heights the wrestling business had never seen before. Hogan built on that with feuds with men like Roddy Piper, Paul Orndorff and King Kong Bundy.

This title victory caused "Hulkamania" to sweep the WWF, as Hogan's popularity soared; immediately after Hogan defeated the Iron Sheik and won the WWF Heavyweight Title, commentator Gorilla Monsoon officially proclaimed "Hulkamania is here." He would frequently refer to his fans as "Hulkamaniacs" in his interviews, and would go on to introduce his three "demandments": training, saying your prayers, and eating your vitamins. Eventually, a fourth demandment (believing in yourself) would be added following his feud with Earthquake. The vitamins demandment has been parodied to mean steroids in recent years due to Vince McMahon's problems with a steroid trial in the early '90s.

Hogan departed the WWF two months later after a series of bouts against Yokozuna on the Hulkamania European tour. An impending steroid scandal led to Vince McMahon deciding to phase out large, muscular wrestlers such as Hogan and give the top spots to smaller, more technically sound wrestlers such as Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. After Hogan left the WWF, he decided to take time off from professional wrestling to concentrate on movies, TV, and his family.

Vince McMahon Sr. didn't want Hulk Hogan as his champion because Hogan was just in a Rocky movie and McMahon didn't want a "Hollywood" star wrestling for him. It's not known though whether Hogan left on his own or was fired.
