1. The Right Stuff
   Hopes ran high that The Right Stuff, the 1981 film version of Tom Wolfe's best-selling book, would be the Numero Uno hit of the year. Covering some 15 years, the film recounts the formation of America's space program, concentrating on the original Mercury astronauts. Scott Glenn plays Alan Shepherd, the first American in space; Fred Ward is Gus Grissom, the benighted astronaut for whom nothing works out as planned; and Ed Harris is John Glenn, the straight-arrow "boy scout" of the bunch who was the first American to orbit the earth. The remaining four Mercury boys are Deke Slayton (Scott Paulin), Scott Carpenter (Charles Frank), Leroy Gordon Cooper (Dennis Quaid), and Wally Schirra (Lance Henriksen). Wolfe's original book related in straightforward fashion the dangers and frustrations facing the astronauts (including Glenn's oft-repeated complaint that it's hard to be confident when you know that the missile you're sitting on has been built by the lowest bidder), the various personal crises involving their families (Glenn's wife Annie, a stutterer, dreads being interviewed on television, while Grissom's wife Betty, angered that her husband is not regarded as a hero because his mission was a failure, bitterly declares "I want my parade!"), and the schism between the squeaky-clean public image of the Mercury pilots and their sometimes raunchy earthbound shenanigans. While the book struck a responsive chord with the public, the film struck out on several levels.
2. How to Dance
   You should learn to dance from a good teacher, as this is essential in teaching you how to take grip of beats and music. The coordination between various parts of the body along with the music beats forms the major part of how to dance. When you are dancing with a partner the dance steps and synchronization ... comes into picture. When you are giving a public performance the practice and timings are necessary.
3. Richard Carlson -- Small Stuff
   Richard Carlson was a popular psychologist in all senses of the phrase. His best-known title, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff . . . and It's All Small Stuff (1997), was one of the fastest-selling books of all time and made publishing history as USA Today's bestselling book for two consecutive years. It spent over 100 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, as well as topping the sales charts in nations as diverse as the UK and Japan. In the self-help market, where new titles proliferate and disappear as fast as they appear, Carlson's Don't Sweat the Small Stuff has been a constant on the shelves of UK bookshops for nearly a decade.
4. The Right Stuff -- People
   The film describes how the mantle of "the right stuff" shifted from USAF test pilots to the Mercury Astronauts. On the way we are shown the terror that Sputnik and Soviet superiority in space caused the American people, the initial failures and difficulties of the American space program, and the strong camaraderie that developed among the original seven astronauts, despite their intensely competitive natures. The film is historically accurate in all except minor points and is closely based on the book.
5. The Right Stuff -- America
   Voter registration drives notwithstanding, over the next two decades the Religious Right carefully nurtured grassroots organizations with a decidedly outsider political mentality. The efforts of groups such as Christian Voice, the Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, the Freedom Council, American Coalition for Traditional Values, and the Christian Coalition were linked masterfully to make a strong impact on local political issues. During this period of rapid growth, the movement concentrated on political battles involving its key moral concerns: abortion, gay rights, school prayer, teaching creationism in public schools, and support for a regressive tax structure (it sees little or no gray area between socialism and tax policy that supposedly "overtaxes" the rich and "redistributes" wealth to the poor). In the process, the movement gleaned valuable insight about how to work the political structure from Washington insiders like Senators Orrin Hatch and Jesse Helms.
6. Stuff Magazine -- Men
   The future owners of Dennis Publishing's men's titles plan to fold Stuff as a standalone magazine in the fall and make it a section in flagship Maxim, sources told Mediaweek. No word on the fate of Stuff's staffers. John Lumpkin, publisher of Stuff, said a change in Stuff's publishing schedule is news to him. "There's been no discussion of suspending publication," he said.
7. The Right Stuff -- United States
   The Right Stuff and all other Permatex products are available at leading automotive retailers and jobbers throughout the world. The "Where to Buy" page on the Permatex Web site guides site visitors to many of the retail outlets in the United States.
8. Michael Apted -- Work
   Apted was born to a lower middle class family — his father worked for an insurance company — in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. Apted secured a scholarship to attend City of London School and then to study law and history at Cambridge University (Downing College).
9. Film Editing -- Work
   Anyone who loses sleep over jittery music videos and CNN promos is likely to take comfort in the work of film editor Melody London. At first, it might seem odd to even refer to her minimalist style as “editing”—London-edited films like Jim Jarmusch’s Down By Law and Stranger Than Paradise have fewer cuts per hour than most car commercials.
10. Ati Drivers -- Work
    With the latest drivers from ATI (8.42.3 of November 21st, 2007) fgl_glxgears will not work initially. The reason for this stems from the fact that there are two versions of libGL.so.1.2 installed, one from fglrx that goes to /usr/X11R6/lib and one from Mesa that resides in /usr/lib. This problem can be solved as follows: Switch to runlevel 3 (init 3), move to /usr/lib, delete libGL.so.1.2 (only this one!) and create a softlink to the library from fglrx: ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2. After that, fgl_glxgears should work.
