The Houston Rockets are a National Basketball Association Team based out of Houston, Texas. The Rockets are currently owned by Leslie Alexander and coached by Jeff Van Gundy. The Rockets have won 2 NBA titles, 4 conference titles and 4 division titles since their inception in 1967. The Rockets play in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference and play their home games at Toyota Center in Houston. The Houston Rockets are a team with a new look and a long history. The Rockets first came to Houston in 1971, and they have been a fan-favorite ever since. In 1981, they became the first Houston team to ever make the Finals. They have won four Division Titles and two NBA Championships since coming to Houston, and they are looking to continue their winning tradition.

The Houston Rockets have had a good team throughout their history but they didn't become a great team until after the 1984 NBA Draft. With the first pick in the 1984 draft the Houston Rockets selected University of Houston center Hakeem Olajuwon. The team went from losing 53 games in the 1983-84 season to winning 48 games the next year. In his rookie year Olajuwon averaged 20.6 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks a game and ... appeared in all 82 games the Rockets played alongside 7'4” power forward Ralph Samson. The “Twin Towers” took the league by storm and in the 1985-86 season it showed in their record when they finished with a 51-31 mark and earned the number two seed in the West. In the playoffs the Rockets took their game to a whole other level.

In 2000, the Houston Rockets failed the make the playoffs for only the second time in 16 seasons. The Rockets missed the playoffs from 2000 through 2003. In 2004 the Rockets returned to the playoffs under Coach Jeff Van Gundy. The Rockets were led by Center Yao Ming from China and stars like Steve Francis, Jim Jackson and Cuttino Mobley. The Rockets added superstar Tracy McGrady to the team in 2005 and had their best regular season record in over a decade. The Rockets lost in the first round of the 2005 playoffs but had very high expectations leading into the 2005/2006 season.

The Houston Rockets launched a shaky start in the beginning of the 2007-07 regular season with injuries to both team superstars Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady but managed to secure a solid spot in the postseason. Further advancement was grounded after a disappointing loss to the Utah Jazz. Recently hired Rick Adelman will point the Rockets in the right direction as their 2007-08 head coach.
