Hootie & the Blowfish: Albums
built 647 days ago
Hootie and the Blowfish started their own record label, Breaking Records, in 1996 as a subsidiary of Atlantic. They had planned to focus on signing local Carolina acts. Edwin McCain and Cravin' Melon were both associated with the label at one point, but did not release any material on it. The Meat Puppets, Jump, Little Children, Treadmill Trackstar and Treehouse released one album each on Breaking Records. The label folded in 2000.
(CBS)It was more than 20 years ago when four students at the University of South Carolina formed "Hootie & the Blowfish. They spent their early days on the local club circuit in Charleston, but grew to tour and sell more than 25 million albums around the world, scooping up two Grammy in the process.

Before Hootie took the stage, the audience was treated to a performance by national recording artist Shawn Mullins, who played a short, intimate set backed by a bassist and a drummer. Mullins' song choices included 'Beautiful Wreck,' from his latest album, '9th Ward Pickin' Parlor,' as well as an incendiary cover of 'House of the Rising Sun.' Mullins ended with his biggest hit to date, 'Lullaby,' which received a strong reaction from the crowd.
