Homeopathy: Samuel Hahnemann
built 656 days ago
Homeopathy is an alternative system of medicine that was founded in 1796 by a German physician, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann because he was unhappy with the healing practices of the day. Many prescribed treatments were as damaging as the disease itself. It reached great popularity in the late 19th century, during which time about 15% of all medical doctors were homeopaths. Homeopathy became less practiced with the advent of modern medicine... since 1980 homeopathy has been experiencing a strong resurgence in much of the world.
Homeopathy is a term derived from Greek words, like homoios meaning similar and pathos meaning suffering. This term was coined by a German physician with the name Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). It first appeared in the year 1807 in print.
Homeopathy has been used in the UK for over two hundred years, but has an honourable tradition dating back to ancient Greece. It was Samuel Hahnemann, a brilliant doctor working in 1796 who developed the scientific and philosophical foundations of this gentler way of healing. These scientific principles form the basis of successful homeopathic practice today.

It had its greatest popularity in the late 19th century, during which time about 15% of all medical doctors were homeopaths. In many other European countries this percentage was similar. However, with the advent of modern medicine, homeopathy was touted as "old and stodgy" by practitioners of conventional medicine and its popularity took a nosedive. This trend has reversed recently and since 1980 homeopathy is experiencing a strong resurgence of interest in the U.S., the U.K., as well as many other countries.
