Responding to a growing interest in teaching the Shoah in Latin America, the Holocaust Museum Houston developed teacher trunks for educators in Latin America with Claims Conference funding. In May 2006, the museum shipped its first trunk to Santiago, Chile, filled with Spanish-language films, posters, books, CD-ROMs, lesson plans, and other materials, providing teachers with an entire working kit of tools for a high school class of 25-30 students. The museum worked with other institutions to find and develop materials such as Spanish translations of Elie Wiesel’s “Night,” and “The Diary of Anne Frank,” as well as other resources that tell the story of Spanish survivors of the Holocaust and survivors who fled to Latin America.
