The Holocaust was the worst genocide in history. Those who carried it out methodically created the means to efficiently round up and kill millions of people. The Holocaust led to the establishment of international laws against human rights violations.

The work of the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust is to take lessons from the history of the Holocaust and use them to help lead new generations of Georgians beyond racism and bigotry. Through a variety of programs, the Commission fosters tolerance, good citizenship and character development among the young people of the state. Each of the Commission initiatives is designed to reinforce the message that understanding, respect, compassion and personal responsibility must always triumph over intolerance, hatred, ruthlessness and apathy.

"As we did at the meeting in New York, we intend to continue to engage the president on his statements regarding the Holocaust," Mary Ellen McNish, general secretary of the AFSC. "The Holocaust is a historical fact and one of history's greatest human tragedies." She added, "these statements make it difficult for Americans to believe that a constructive dialogue is possible."
