Laredo's ninth name-brand hotel project in the last year and a half is the new 105-room Holiday Inn Express being built at 7223 Bob Bullock Loop. The hotel is scheduled to open on Aug. 1, according to John O'Connor, director of operations for Hospitality Management Corp. The four-story hotel will cost $6.9 million for the land, building and equipment. The primary customers will be business travelers coming to Laredo to visit manufacturing plants on the Mexican side of the border, as well as visitors to the entertainment center and visitors to the university. The 60,000-square-foot building will have 83 standard guest rooms and there will be 22 one- and two-bedroom suites. The business will employ about 25 people, most of them from the Laredo area.
In conjunction with the national rollout of the SimplySmart shower program, Holiday Inn Express has launched a new generation of its popular Stay Smart(R) television ads that incorporate the shower initiative. A fourth iteration will begin airing in May 2005. The brand will ... advertise its new shower program via billboards and truck-side advertising in major markets starting this month.

In addition, Holiday Inn Express properties across the country are committing to raise at least $1,000 per hotel this year by engaging their staffs and local communities in unique ways such as hosting book reading parties. All hotel funds raised will stay in local communities for the purchase of new books and literacy resources, and will benefit local RIF programs. To kick-off the program at the local level, the Holiday Inn Express brand and Scholastic will distribute 150,000 books to RIF programs across the country. Scholastic, a global children's publishing, education and media company, is a long-time supporter of RIF.
