Holiday Gifts: Holiday Season
built 282 days ago
For those who don't receive gift cards this holiday season, the good news is that the majority of the gifts received will likely be returnable, if needed. The great majority (75 percent) of survey respondents said they prefer to shop at stores that have hassle-free return policies. One-quarter (25 percent) of consumers said that last season they returned or exchanged gifts; they did so 2.4 times. In addition, almost one-quarter (22 percent) said they re-gifted last holiday season. Women were much more likely to do so than men, as were younger consumers. Those that re-gifted did so an average of 2.8 times.
Do you struggle with shopping for gifts each year during the holiday season? Is it more stressful than joyful? Would you like that to change? Then take a few minutes to consider a new approach to your gift-giving and find yourself putting the happy back in your Happy Holidays!

In November, the growth of each of the top ten gaining categories can be attributed to holiday seasonality (see table 2). The Retail - Toys category was the single largest gaining category in November, growing by 34 percent versus October. Parents looking to score coveted toys before they sold out turned to the Web in droves, driving ToysRUs Sites and KB Toys up 80 and 146 percent, respectively, versus October. Those shopping for a broader selection of gift ideas drove significant November gains in sub-categories such as Jewelry/Luxury Goods/Accessories, Department Stores, Home Furnishing and Flowers/Gifts/Greetings. Seven of the top ten gaining properties in November (see table 3) were sites owned by offline/multi-channel retailers, with sites owned by ToysRUs, Circuit City, Target Corporation, Kohl's, J.C. Penney, Best Buy and Wal-Mart all seeing gains of between 30 and 80 percent from October to November.
