Hofstra University, located in Hempstead, NY, is the largest private university on Long Island. In 2002, it was announced that Hagedorn Hall, named after philanthropists Amy and Horace Hagedorn, would become Hofstra's new home for the School of Education and Allied Human Services. Located at the site of a former federal courthouse, Hagedorn was slated for a complete renovation, including the addition of a state-of-the-art networked A/V system throughout the building.

The Hofstra University School of Medicine, in partnership with North Shore-LIJ, would be the first allopathic (M.D.) medical school in Nassau County, NY and the first new allopathic medical school established in New York State since 1963. There are currently 126 American allopathic medical schools.

Hofstra University plans to open a medical school on the Hempstead campus, university officials said yesterday. The university will operate the school in partnership with some of the 15 hospitals of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, said Stu Vincent, a university spokesman. The university said it would be the first medical school to open in New York since 1963.

Hofstra University's world-renowned School of Communications features one of the largest non-commercial radio and television broadcast facilities on the East Coast. When former President Bill Clinton addressed thousands of attendees at the University Cultural Center's 11th Presidential Conference earlier this year, school officials wanted to provide campus-wide television coverage of the event. To make that happen, video engineers at the school installed an all-digital fiber-optic transmission system for composite video, with four audio channels, at the School of Communications.

In January of 2005, the Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University began a special building project. Their goal was to create an on-campus trading room for their students, to give them the tools and information they need to experience a real-world trading environment.
