From about 1400 to 1200 BCE, the Hittites ruled over a large empire extending from western Turkey to northern Syria, and conducted wars as well as diplomacy with the other great powers of Egypt and Babylonia. Recent archaeological investigations over a wide area of Turkey have uncovered significant new information about the empire and its material culture, and dramatic new discoveries have been made at the site of Boğazköy itself.

The Hittites lived in what is now Turkey. The moved to Turkey about 2,000 BC and at first they were divided into separate states. However about 1,650 BC they were united by King Labarnas.

That was the beginning of a long journey resulting in the production of The Hittites. The two-hour docudrama was co-produced by EKiP Film based in Istanbul, and Digital Ranch, which is in Los Angles. It draws the audience deep into an authentic recreation of an ancient world that self-destructed some 3,500 years ago. It was the first co-production between Turkish and American companies on a major film. Örnek believes it was ... the first Super 35mm film (1.85:1) produced in Turkey.
