This Hitler Youth Knife (HJ Fahrtenmesser) is constructed of forged Solingen steel with a 5.5 inch single-edge blade. Blades are RZM marked and dated. Holding the blade is a checkered black grip with enamel HJ swastika insert. This knife comes complete with black metal scabbard and belt loop. Manufactured in Solingen from original WWII dies this fine replica is indistinguishable from the original. Overall Length: 9.5 inches Blade: 5.5 inches Weight: 10 oz

This fine Hitler Youth Knife is the earlier style having nickel plated, steel based, hilt. The nickel plating throughout this hilt is in choice condition, still remaining at 100%, and having good bright luster throughout. The grip plates are the early, finely checkered bakelite, type. They are in perfect condition, and these plates are retained by nickel rivets, having dressed heads on the obverse. Placed in the center obverse grip, is an outstanding Hitler Youth insignia. This enameled insignia wiggles, and has the choice bright colors of red, white, gold, and black swastika in the center.

Interesting details about the Hitler Youth are available from the children involved looking back as adults on their experiences. The reflections are quite varied. Most boys were at first eager to join. Parents had more mixed feelings, especially anti-NAZIs. In many cases the boys from these families could not understand their parents misgivings. Often it was not safe for their parents to explain why to their children--both boys and girls.

There are 550 Hitler Youth speakers today who are certified by the Reichspropagandaleitung. Many stood behind the speaking platform and preached National Socialism even before 1 January 1933. These experienced HJ speakers are the foundation of the HJ speaking staff. The number of young speakers is constantly growing. The youth who do their first speaking to a group of their comrades or in a membership meeting will in the course of time learn to speak logically, giving their material persuasive impact.

The Hitler Youth program was based on Hitler's anti-intellectualism. Hitler was a notorious anti-intelectual. The best example of this is Hitler's ban in 1940 on weapons programs which could not be completed within a year. Thus decision by the Furrer put back the development of key radar, jet, and rocket systems so that by the time they were finally operation that they had minimal impact on the war. Intelectual persuits were not encouraged in NAZI Germany. In fact it could be quite dangerous in NAZI Germany to speak one's mind, especially on matters of interest to Hitler and the NAZIs.

In order to convince the young people to join the Hitler Youth, a enormous publicity campaign was started. Those who didn`t join, became outsiders. Civil servants were forced to send their children to the HJ.
