In time, the course of history enlarged the region's economic activities. Wheat-farming would unquestionably remain basic, from southern Manitoba to the Peace River country of northern Alberta; though crops like sugar beets and canola (used considerably for its edible oil) ... brought more diversity to agriculture. Cattle-ranching, besides, flourished from the Alberta foothills back into Saskatchewan; while lumbering advanced in more northern forest areas, and even commercial fishing was far from insignificant in major freshwaters like Lake Winnipeg. Above all, however, large-scale mining activities developed as well. The plains assuredly would yield great quantities of oil and natural gas (especially but by no means exclusively in Alberta), of potash and uranium in Saskatchewan, and metal ores notably in Manitoba. Furthermore, manufacturing and service industries grew also in major cities of the region.
From 1991-1997 CPRC's Press took over the technical production of the Blue Jay, the journal of Nature Saskatchewan (then the Saskatchewan Natural History Society). The Blue Jay appeared four times yearly and during the six years of the Press's involvement, twenty-two issues were produced.

Small things often influence the course of history. Perhaps the miserly grant of ten pounds from a parsimonious king to the man who discovered a continent dissuaded others from risking life and limb to capitalize on Cabot's exploits. For whatever reason England failed to follow up on John Cabot's expedition and ... another nation found and settled along the St. Lawrence resulting in England's temporary loss of this great land called Canada.
The history of Canada is presumed to be very old. The first trait of humans was found around 26,500 years ago in northern Yukon and around 9,500 years in southern Ontario .
