4. History -- Black History Month
   African-Americans have contributed to American society and culture in every walk of life, and one purpose of Black History Month is to call attention to some of those accomplishments which may have escaped notice. We've adapted 10 brief biographies from the Profile America series produced by the U.S. Census Bureau. They are presented in alphabetical order, starting here with Jane Bolin.
5. History of Science -- Natural History
   As an academic field, history of science began with the publication of William Whewell's History of the Inductive Sciences (first published in 1837). A more formal study of the history of science as an independent discipline was launched by George Sarton's publications, Introduction to the History of Science (published in 1927) and the Isis journal (founded in 1912). The history of mathematics, history of technology, and history of philosophy are distinct areas of research and are covered in other articles. Mathematics is closely related to but distinct from natural science (at least in the modern conception). Technology is likewise closely related to but clearly differs from the search for empirical truth. Philosophy differs from science in its engagement in analysis and normative discourse, among other differences.
6. Computer History -- Internet History
   Advanced Tracks Eraser 2.0 erase computer history: The operating system Windows stores all the tracks of all the activities on the hard disk. This can hampers the security of the data and the privacy of the user. Anyone else using the user’s computer can see and know about all the activities if the user and where he has been on Internet, what images and movies he has seen. Others could see everything that the user has done in the computer. The Windows built-in functions cannot erase computer history so cannot protect the privacy, as most of the tracks cannot be erased with them. 7. Italian History -- History Center
   Located on the fourth floor of the History Center, the Italian American Special Collections gallery is the museum's permanent display of museum artifacts collected from the Italian-American community. Artifacts on display include food and winemaking equipment, saint statues used in religious processions, tools used by Italian-American craftsmen, and works by Italian-American artists. The Special Collections gallery is open to the public during regular museum hours.
8. History of Africa -- African History
   Most of Africa did not have a written tradition of recorded history... there are regions where a literate tradition a great antiquity exists. One of the earliest forms of writing was developed by the Egyptians- the hieroglyphic style -- around 3000 B.C. The ancient accounts give a vivid picture of what the Egyptian (African) civilization was like over its nearly 3000 years. The Kushite civilization -- focused in the city of Meroe -- had its own system of writing five centuries (or more) before the birth of Christ. In Ethiopia, the classic language of the ancient Axum was expressed in written form by the fourth century A.D. Outsiders brought other literate traditions to Africa -- Greek, Latin, and Arabic were introduced in Mediterranean Africa. Literacy in Arabic penetrated into the Western Sudan region through learning centers in Djenne and Timbuktu in Mali during the fifteenth century -- and likewise in the Swahili city-states of the East African coast. Upon the arrival of the Europeans in the fifteenth century, came written historical accounts in Portuguese, Dutch, English, French and others.
9. History -- History Department
   The Department of History emphasizes a world view of human development in its curriculum for majors. The department ... produces students who have the practical skills of critical thinking and analysis, curiosity, tolerance and objectivity, investigative technique, writing ability, and computer skills in international databases. The methods of critical inquiry have served history majors at FHSU well in careers as varied as secondary education, historical research, law, medicine, business, theology, government service, military service, historic preservation, historical society leadership, journalism, and other professions.
10. Halloween History -- History of Halloween
    HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN Halloween (Allhallows Even) is the evening of October 31. In its strictly religious aspect this occasion is known as the vigil of Hallowmas or All Saints' Day, November 1, observed by the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches. In the fourth decade of the 8th century, Pope Gregory III assigned this date for celebrating the feast when he consecrated a chapel in St. Peter's basilica to all the saints. Gregory IV extended the feast to the entire church in 834. In Latin countries the evening of October 31 is observed only as a religious occasion, but in Great Britain, Ireland, and the United States, ancient Halloween folk customs persist alongside the ecclesiastical observance. Students of folklore believe that the popular customs of Halloween show traces of the Roman harvest festival of Pomona and of Druidism.
