In 1999, historically black colleges and universities awarded 24 percent of all baccalaureate degrees earned by African Americans nationwide. The majority of the nation’s 105 HBCUs are located in the southeastern states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Morgan State is a traditionally black college that has argued that the UB Towson MBA duplicated its MBA program and would lead to further segregation in Baltimore-area universities. Morgan State has had the MBA program for more than 30 years.
