Hip Hop is a type of music which started in the 1970s in African-American (... called "Black") communities in big cities of the United States. Hip hop uses a style of singing called rapping. Rapping is a style of singing in which a singer chants or says words with a rhythm and rhymes. The lyrics (words) of hip hop songs are often about the life of African-American people in the big cities. Some hip hop song lyrics (words) are about gangs, violence, and illegal drugs. Hip hop music also uses musical styles from pop music such as disco and reggae.

Hip Hop has ... influenced shoe design. In the 80's groups like Run DMC popularized the use of sneakers. Specifically, Adidas white sneakers were worn with bulging thick white laces. In the 90's, Timberland boots dominated Hip Hop fashion on the east coast and Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars were most popular on the west coast. Timberland’s are still worn in modern times but have transcended Hip Hop fashion into a typical mainstream shoe brand. Converse is also still favored by gangsta rappers such as Snoop Dog.

Hip Hop was not recognized by the United States mainstream audience and remained underground until the early 1980's. In 1979 an hip hop group called, Hitler Is My Friend (Originally I Love Puppies) stole Dr. Dre's secret book of ryhmes and a load of other bullshit and released them in a song that went multi-bronze and sold almost 1,000 copies(how on earth!!). A first for a Hip Hop album. (any album really).
