The history of Hinduism began in India about 1500 BC. Although its literature can be traced only to before 1000 BC, evidence of Hinduism's earlier antecedents is derived from archaeology, comparative philology, and comparative religion.

Hinduism, unlike other religions, does not dogmatically assert that the final emancipation is possible only through its means and not through any other. It is only a means to an end, and all means which will ultimately lead to the end are equally approved.

The medieval period in Hinduism is primarily characterized by the rise of devotional movements, the systematization of Hindu philosophy into six schools, and the rise of Tantrism. With the rise and spread of devotional ( bhakti ) movements, came the rise of temples as important religious centers in Hinduism. The mythology of the dietiesworshipped at these temples became systematized in a genre of works called the Puranas , or 'Stories of old'. 19

Rama is a Hindu deity worshiped throughout Hinduism as the seventh incarnation of Vishnu. Rama is represented as the ideal hero of the Sanskrit epic poem the Ramayana. He was meant to be a secular hero in the epic, but he is seen in the first and sixth books as an incarnation of Vishnu. Rama comes to earth to kill the demon king Ravana.

Karma: There is no forgiveness in Hinduism--only karma. If you do wrong you will pay for it in the next life--this is working out your karma your punishment for sin. Each person MUST suffer for his sins. If someone is suffering in this life, it is assumed they are paying for some evil they've done in their past life-- even though they don't remember what they did wrong. That's why they can walk by some low caste member who is dying on the street and feel nothing. Karma is the law of cause and effect which determines destiny/fate. For every thought, word or deed karma produces an inevitable effect.

A foreigner is struck with astonishment when he hears about the diverse sects and creeds of Hinduism. But, these varieties are really an ornament to Hinduism. They, certainly, are not its defects. There are various types of mind and temperament. So, there should be various faiths .... This is but natural.
