The Flagship has just launched Hamaarii Bolii, a new web-based database of self-produced, video interviews with Hindi-Urdu speakers. The site features clusters of short video responses to questions covering a wide variety of topics from conversational strategies to social issues. The database continues to grow with new material recorded regularly in India, Pakistan, and the United States. Hindi-Urdu students and teachers everywhere are free to use the site to enhance their own classroom experience.

Since the elite can use English, Hindi has been particularly weak on the Internet. As a barometer, the Devanagari fonts and keyboards used on computers today were not standardized within India - earlier government standards such as the 8-bit ISCII (Indian Script Code for Information Interchange) or the GIST keyboard were never widely adopted. The present system was finally standardized only during Unicode deliberations. Indeed, Hindi unicode standards were finalised based on inputs from scholars hailing from Fiji and other countries. It is only when Unicode became the dominant standard that a number of changes were sought by the Indian government.

Hindi gives a lot of flexibility to people of Urdu, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Uria, Nepali etc. so that, they can speak it their own ways. Everybody find Hindi easy and useful for communication when the person travels across India.

One problem was connected to the different dialects of Hindi and the second problem was connected to other languages which exist in India. The first problem was which dialect of Hindi is the right Hindi. Hindi has at least 13 dialects, some of them completely different from each other. Two reasons caused to it that Hindi language includes in it so many different dialects. One reason was related to the fact that India is called Hind in many languages spoken west from it up to the Middle East. Muslim invaders of India like the Moghuls came from these regions and called the language spoken in ‘Hind’ as Hindi.

Hindi numbers ending in 9 are named as "un" (-1) plus the next multiple of ten. Instead of naming powers of a thousand, Hindi has unique names for a thousand, a hundred thousand, ten million etc. These peculiarities don't seem to have effected the proliferation of Indian mathematicians.
