Audiences familiar with Swank for her stint on Beverly Hills, 90210 were astounded by her dramatic turn as the doomed cross-dresser. Based on a true story, the brutal and wrenching scenes where Brandon is raped and, in the end, murdered, were some of the most difficult to behold in modern cinema. It is doubtful that there was ever an actor to rise to the height of prominence in Hollywood from so obscure a place.
