Lunke had a chance to win with the final putt, 15 feet below the cup for birdie. It had the right line, but came up a foot short. She closed with a 75.

Becky Iverson, Hilary Lunke, Mi Hyun Kim and Lee Ann Walker-Cooper assisted with the Junior Clinic presented by Wal-Mart Distribution Center 6088. With over 200 juniors in attendance, the professionals shared their skills and taught them about the fundamentals of golf in an effort to encourage their interest in the game. Following the exhibition clinic the kids participated in hands on instruction with members of the Middle Atlantic Professional Gof Association.

Pedigree probably ... had something to do with Lunke's success.Her father, Bill Homeyer, is an avid golfer who Hilary watched play as she grew up. Then when it was time to pick a college, Lunke decided on a school that had just sent Tiger Woods on to bigger and better things.

Lunke figures her pregnancy, at this stage, has cost her about one club in irons distance and about 25 to 30 yards in driving distance. She plans to play a limited schedule next season.

[A]fter years of a sport that demanded continuous physical training, Lunke picked a sport where three weeks of rest can sometimes do you as much good as three weeks of practice. "Golf just doesn't make sense that way," she said.

It is hard to describe the emotions Lunke must now be feeling, but throughout the last round she was like a swan on a lake. Calm and serene outwardly, but no doubt churning inside, as she tried to put the thoughts of winning a title that would change her life to the back of her mind.
