The October issue, which hits newsstands this week, provides a by-the-numbers evaluation of each school, without ranks or scores, allowing the figures to speak for themselves.

Bloomfield High School, Bloomfield, CT: An 11th grade chemistry project, "Nuclear Medicine," will help students develop an understanding of nuclear chemistry through classroom activities, lab work and interactive simulations. The students will apply the knowledge they have gained as they research career opportunities within the nuclear field.

Because many students are expected to apply for a limited number of spaces in Saint Paul high schools during the 2008-2009 school year, it is especially important that highschool families apply by the February 29, 2008, application deadline. To increase their chancesof securing a place for their child in a Saint Paul public high school of their choice,parents of students entering grades 9-12 are encouraged to indicate their child’s attendance area school as one of their two choices.

In South Africa, high school begins at 8th Grade. Students study for five years, at the end of which they write what is known as "matric" If enough passes are attained on the higher grade (subjects can be on either a Higher or Standard grade), they may progress on to university. Officially the Senior Certificate to be changed to the National Senior Certificate in 2008 and the system of higher and standard grade has been dropped. An alternative examination is possible in the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams. They are set up by a board, representing many private schools.
