High school football will be the focus on Monday nights, as FiOS1 launches the High School Game of the Week on Oct. 8 with replays airing throughout the week. FiOS1 will produce and air games played the previous week, including five regular-season games and the district, regional and Virginia state championship games. Matchups include Oakton at Chantilly, Oct. 8; W.T. Woodson at Madison, Oct. 15; Oakton at Robinson (homecoming), Oct. 22; and Westfield at Oakton (senior night), Oct. 29.

A Grand Haven High School student has been diagnosed with MRSA, a staph infection. "In spite of our best efforts as a district at being vigilant about staph infections and MRSA, we have our first reported case," said Grand Haven Area Public Schools Assistant Superintendent for Human Services John Thatcher, in a letter to high school parents dated Nov. 19. "The student will not be in school this week to ensure that healing has occurred prior to returning."

Classes were finished for the day at Nease High School one afternoon last week when a rat scampered out of a grate into a quiet courtyard. He found a scrap of food and started munching away.
