Hexen is the sequel to Heretic. Like Heretic, Hexen is a fantasy game based on an enhanced DOOM engine. All of Heretic's innovations like vertical looking, flying, and the inventory system have been carried over. The new major changes this time around are three characters for the player to choose from and the level hub system. The characters are the Fighter, the Cleric, and the Mage. Each one has four unique weapons and different levels of speed and armor.

Hexen 2 should be the first computer game that bridges the gap between Quake and Quake 2. Raven Software and id Software have been working closely together to finish the sequel to Hexen, which was itself a sequel to Heretic. Hexen 2 will provide the Quake community with its first glimpse at a finished project incorporating the many developments since Quake's release. Hexen 2 is being developed by Raven, published by id, and distributed by Activision.

Just like Doom 64 and Turok, Hexen contains some really good cheat codes. The first thing you must do is start a game. You can pick any play mode (normal, co-op or deathmatch) and can have any number of players. You can ... resume a saved game. Once the game is started or loaded, press start to pause the game. Now press the following button combination: Top C, Bottom C, Left C, Right C. If done correctly, you'll see Cheat appear at the bottom of the menu.

Some elements of the Hexen 2039 project, on second reading, really come close to this blog's project of trying to find ways in which to flesh out consciousness. The adventures of the artist's alter ego, Rosalind Brodsky, first were disseminated on a website, which turned into a book, which turned into a cd and artwork. The project then expanded into an museum exhibition which has been touring Europe and the US in various editions and is currently at the Dana Centre in London.

Thanks to the great help of Pa3PyX, some of the info pages in the Hexen II section have been reworked. Many dead links have been corrected and a couple of new gameplay mods and total conversions have been added.

The puzzles in Hexen involve many different worlds linked together by a central "Hub" world. Actions in each world open doors and solve puzzles in another world. Most puzzles involve finding switches in different worlds, and then trying to see the effects on the Hub world.
